Holly Hybrids, Spreckels and SESVanderhave strive to provide the best possible sugarbeet seed varieties for our growing regions.
Coating & Pelleting
Film Coating
Seed is coated with a colorful film for easier visibility when evaluating planter performance in the field. This color coating also indicates that the seed has been treated with emergence enhancing fungicides.
Holly utilizes state of the art equipment to uniformly and precisely coat seed.

Pelleting
In some markets, growers prefer pellets. The pelleting process creates a sphere out of an irregular shaped seed to assist in planting. During the pelleting process the seed is tumbled wet in a pellet mill to create a round seed product.
Drying & Sizing
Once round, the seed is dried and then sized to meet very specific requirements.
Pelleting Smoothes Edges
Pelleting adds material build up around rough, flat, irregular seed to produce bigger, rounder, smoother and more uniformly sized coated seed.
The photo below illustrates a sugarbeet seed that has been pelleted and coated. In addition, it shows the emergence of the seedling from a pelleted seed ball.

Goals of Coating & Pelleting
